About the artist
Steve Gibb is a self-taught artist with a lifelong love of wildlife and nature. That interest first developed as a child growing up on a farm in southern Alberta, and expanded through years involved in hiking and outdoor photography. When he took to paint and canvas, it was only natural that wildlife, the wide-open western landscape, and the ever-changing prairie sky would become his focus of interest.
After a long career as a journalist, including 17 years as editor-in-chief of The StarPhoenix in Saskatoon, he has now expanded his focus from the world of words to that of the visual arts, including painting and photography.
Steve continues to live in Saskatoon with wife Sarah.
While he works primarily in acrylics, Steve's paintings incorporate his own distinct style, where the key elements are hand-drawn, and hand-cut from other media, and affixed to the canvas and sanded before painting. While it's a time-consuming process, it adds a unique feel to the work.
